Pro-Law Enforcement, Pro-First Responder

I have always been a fierce advocate for law enforcement, and as County Executive, I will ensure that St. Charles County is the best place for police officers to live and work!

2022

  • Increased number of police officers in the St. Louis region by 231 uniformed officers.
  • Increased pay for officers serving during night shifts.
  • Stripped liberal St. Louis City's ability to defund the St. Louis City police force.
2018–2021

Primary Sponsor — Senate Bill 26 (PASSED AND BECAME LAW)

  • “Police Officer Bill of Rights”
  • Prohibited defunding of police departments statewide.
  • Set minimum thresholds for police funding for every county in Missouri to prevent liberal cities from going after cops by defunding them.
  • Increased penalties to protect medical first responders—now a Class D misdemeanor to disrupt ambulance service by threatening to inflict injury on ambulance/EMT personnel.
  • Created the “988 Public Safety Fund” to provide services to police officers suffering from PTSD, stress, and psychological trauma resulting from performing duties.
  • Created the “Police Officer Bill of Rights” to protect officers from frivolous accusations and ensure officers enjoy due process during internal law enforcement investigations.
  • Support of this bill beginning in 2018 directly led to Eigel's endorsement by the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police and the Missouri Police Officers Association for his re-election to the state senate in 2020. The bill was passed and signed into law in 2022-2023.
  • Top law enforcement priority statewide for 2020 and 2021.

  • Increased basic training time for new police officers to 600 hours of education.
  • Created a state task force to recommend training on topics such as active shooter/threat response and human trafficking.
